Caring for Gold Vermeil

Every McKenna James piece is crafted in gold vermeil: a thick layer of 18k gold over a solid 925 sterling silver base. It’s made to be worn and loved every day. A little care keeps it glowing for years.

Last on, first off
Put your jewelry on after lotion, perfume, hairspray, and makeup have dried. Take it off before anything else at the end of the day.

Keep it dry
Remove your pieces before swimming, showering, bathing, or using a hot tub. Chlorine, salt water, and soaps can dull the gold over time.

Give it a rest during activity
Take your jewelry off before workouts, cleaning, gardening, or sleeping. Sweat, friction, and household chemicals are the biggest causes of wear.

Clean gently
Wipe each piece with a soft, lint-free or microfiber cloth to remove oils. If a deeper clean is needed, use a drop of mild soap in lukewarm water, rinse, and pat completely dry. Avoid jewelry dips, polishing compounds, toothpaste, and ultrasonic cleaners.

Store with care
Keep each piece in its McKenna James pouch/box or a lined jewelry box, away from humidity and direct sunlight. Store pieces separately so chains don’t tangle and surfaces don’t scratch. Clasping necklaces before storing helps prevent knots.
